Concerned about energy? You can conserve energy and save money without making radical changes to your comfortable lifestyle. We can show you how.

Here is what we can do:

Blower door testing:  By installing  a fan in the doorway and de-pressurizing  the building, we can determine a wealth of information about air flow and moisture in your building:

·          The overall air tightness of your building, and whether it is too well sealed for health (rare) or if it is a drafty energy hog.

·          We can calculate the actual surface area of the leaks, and the nominal air changes per hour.

·          The testing will show if your heating ducts are leaking. You may be heating your attic or crawl space, or worse, you may be sucking crawl space air into your occupied area.

·          We can analyze the cost of the heat loss through the air leaks, and determine the cost effectiveness of air sealing.

·          Combustion appliances such as gas water heaters and furnaces, and fireplaces, often spill carbon monoxide into living areas. We do a “worst case” test to ensure that this is not likely to happen.

·          Our testing can determine why there may be excessive moisture build-up in bathrooms, kitchens or laundry rooms, and suggest ways to correct the problem.

·          Buildings often have natural air flow patterns that bring dirty crawl space air directly into the living area. We find innovative solutions to prevent this.

Energy Audits:  By determining the insulation value of the walls, floors, windows, doors, and ceilings, and measuring  surface  areas and volumes, we can determine the average heat loss. By checking the combustion efficiencies of the furnace and water heater, we can make sure that they are operating properly. We check the efficiency of your refrigerator and the lighting system. Combining this information with the results of the blower door test, we can determine:

·          How your energy usage compares with other similar houses

·          Repairs you can make to improve energy consumption, and the payback period of the improvements—(how much money will you save versus the up-front costs of the repairs) Suggest appliance repair or replacement if appropriate.

·          Ways to cure a “sick” building.

·          Methods to solve moisture problems.

Energy conservation is the first line of defense against global warming. There are many ways to save energy and still enjoy a comfortable life style—there is no need to take cold showers, dry off with a dirty towel, or live in a dark and cold house.
